This is a favorite page of a comic I was commissioned by Colleen Kinsella and Caleb Mulkerin to create as an insert for the fourth Big Blood CD. At the time I’d only seen one Big Blood performance (I think there only was the one) and had listened the dickens out of their very first CD. They liked my work and gave me cart blanche to make a comic for them, the only requirement being that it had to fit in with a CD. Fortunately I’d already made drawings of Caleb and Colleen during their performances, so it was a cinch to make characters out of them… The story derived primarily from the insistent beat of the song “A Quiet Lousy Roar,” but also from the nostalgia and epic feel of “Under the Concourse.”
The phantom four-piece later honored me by recording the song “The Birds and the Herds” based on stuff I did in the comic! Huzzah!
